All drivers are required to follow this backing policy at all times.
BACKING POLICY FOR ALL RAILCREW XPRESS DRIVERS
All RailCrew Xpress drivers shall make every effort to avoid backing situations and position the vehicle, whenever possible, to avoid making a backup movement.
- If a backing move is necessary, perform the movement prior to the crew arriving for transportation or after the crew departs the vehicle and its vicinity.
- Before backing, the driver must walk around the vehicle to inspect the surrounding areas, especially the rear, to ensure that no persons or obstructions are in the path of movement.
- If it is determined that a backing movement can be done more safely with the passengers on board, the driver will allow the passengers to board the vehicle prior to backing. All passengers must be in agreement with the decision that it is safer to board the vehicle prior to backing. A safety briefing will be held between the driver and passengers as to how the backing move will be made and if it is deemed appropriate the driver may ask passengers to provide assistance to complete the backing movement.
